It is time to make your reservations for your group of Tri-M students to attend the 2010 KMEA In-service Workshop on Friday, February 26. The day will begin with registration located in the connecting lobby of the Hyatt and Century II from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. At the registration table, you will receive your Tri-M name badges, a schedule for the day and pay for your lunches. Please pay for lunches with cash or by check made out to KMEA. Student attendance at the KMEA Workshop is free but the students must wear their name badges at all times for identification.
I am happy to tell you that all four Tri-M sessions will be held in room 201 of Century II and the lunch in conjunction with the CMENC membership will be held at the Hyatt. These locations are more easily accessible to students and sponsors as they experience the Convention.
Session 1 will feature the MENC President, Barbara Geer, and I look forward to her message to our students. Please consider having your kids share during session 2 with either a short skit or a brief presentation of the Tri-M activities that have been successful in your school. There are locations on the registration form for you to indicate your choice of skit or presentation. If you will not have students attending I would still appreciate a report from you, as sponsor, so all chapters can learn from each other during this time of sharing.
You will need to make your lunch reservations found on the online registration page. Lunch will include pizza and be $5.00 per person. (Cheese pizza will be available for those who prefer a meatless meal during Lent.) Please be sure to have the correct amount in cash or check for your lunches. Lunch will be a wonderful time for your students to mix with the CMENC members who are pursuing a career in music education or related fields.
Session 3 will feature a panel of Tri-M sponsors who will dialogue about starting and building strong Tri-M Chapters. A goal has been set to double the number of Kansas Tri-M Chapters during this year. This would be a great time to invite a colleague who has considered forming a chapter but has not yet started the process.
There will be time before lunch and after session 3 for students to visit the exhibit hall, performances or other sessions. The final session specific for Tri-M students will be a joint session with CMENC, which will be of interest to students who are contemplating a career in music education.
Please be sure to complete the online Tri-M registration by Friday, February 12 for attendance to this year's February 26 Tri-M sessions and lunch so appropriate plans can be completed. See you in February!
