GREETINGS FROM THE NORTHWEST KS KMEA JUNIOR HIGH /MIDDLE SCHOOL CHOIR CHAIR AND WELCOME TO THE 2008-09 SCHOOL YEAR!  My name is Kayla Tiemeyer and I am the Junior High/Middle School Chairperson for the Northwest District.     I hope that you all had time to “REFRESH” over the summer and that you are ready for an AWESOME SCHOOL YEAR….I know that I am!  I am again excited to be a part of this and hope that I can be of help to you.  If you have questions, simply email me or call and I will try my best to help!

I am excited to announce that our clinician for the JH/MS Honor Choir is Joel Johnston, from Omaha, NE   who is a free-lance conductor, presenter, choreographer and adjudicator in the United States and has conducted over 40 choral clinics and festivals in the Midwest.      He is currently conductor of the SW Iowa Men’s Chorus, the SNJ Studio Singers, a select high school a cappella ensemble and Center Stage, a middle school show choir.    I am also excited to announce that  Kathy Jamison, will be at the piano.  She is  an awesome accompanist from Quinter KS!  I am excited about having Joel and Kathy come and work with our kids and look forward to a fun and
educational day!

The Choir Repertoire is as follows.  This is an awesome list of music and will be available at Senseney Music in Wichita.

Sing Joy, Sing Gaudia!  Greg Gilpin  2-pt Treble w/ descant
            Carl Fisher    CM8865

Why We Sing by Greg Gilpin SAB
Alfred DO670

The Little Beggarman  Emily Crocker  SAB
Hal Leonard  08743864

This is My Song!  Roger Emerson  SAB
Hal Leonard  08745179

On the 2 part piece (Sing Joy, Sing Gaudia!)  Joel suggests that the tenors sing with the sopranos and the basses sing with the alto an octave lower.  Unchanged boys voices could do either part and you as directors can make that decision.

.  Please have you’re your students well prepared and have them know the music well, when they come to the clinic on Nov. 1.    (Joel would like to  work with tone, facial expression, meaning of text, etc. and other polishing skills  during the rehearsal.)  I am hopeful that the literature is something that you may find helpful in your home choirs.  In the interest of time, and because Joel is trying to make this a great experience and a great concert,  we have selected 4 numbers instead of 5.

AUDITION PROCEDURE:

Please note that the entry forms are on the website and the deadline to have your entries to Kayla Tiemeyer is Friday, October 3, 2008.     TEACHERS: Please  email these to me by Friday, Oct 3, 08 or send them  by mail, postmarked by Friday, Oct 3, 2008.  Any entries received after the October 3, 2008 deadline will not be considered.      PLEASE FOLLOW UP BY EMAILING OR CALLING KAYLA TIEMEYER TO BE SURE THAT YOUR LIST WAS RECEIVED SO THAT NO ONE IS LEFT OUT!!!!!  Again, please be PROMPT so that the final list can get back to all of the teachers in a timely manner!

Requirements for this Honor choir are the same as in previous years.  Please note that this is supposed to be the top 15% of your Junior High/Middle School Choir enrollment…7th and 8th grade students.    (Example:  if your choir has 30 members, then select 4 or 5 students)  If possible try to nominate a balance of parts.

Students will be selected by teacher recommendation and the final list will be sent to all of you directors by email.  Please be sure to check the website and your emails often.

Please note that there is a $10.00 fee per student who is selected to sing in the Honor Choir on Sat. Nov. 1, 08. You may bring that money with you on that day and turn it in then to the District Treasurer. The $10.00 fee is due on that day, even if the student is unable to participate at the last minute.
