Greetings and welcome to the new school year. I am excited
about getting this honor band organized and hearing the beautiful music that
results from hard work and preparation. I know our students are in for a
treat as Johannah Cox from Lawrence has agreed to be the clinician. Best of
luck as you prepare your students.
Deadline for submitting tapes or CD’s will be WEDNESDAY, Sept. 17, 2008.
Audition material needs to be postmarked by that date in order to be
eligible for participation.
This year’s cycle of material is CYCLE 2. Please note that there has been a
great deal of confusion with the snare audition material. The page numbers
listed are found in the Joel Rothman Basic Drumming Book- NOT REVISED
EDITION. If you have Joel Rothman’s Basic Drumming REVISED EDITION book, the
page is 61. Etude 3 begins with the 7th line of music in both books.
Please include on the audition form an e-mail address where you, the
teacher, can be reached. So much of my communication is done via e-mail. I
need those addresses.
The Junior High Honor Band will be held at Hays High School on Saturday,
Nov. 1, 2008. Rehearsal begins at 8:30 a.m. sharp. The concert will begin at
3:30 p.m. which is a change years past. Admission for the concert is $2 for
adults. Students are admitted free. Concert dress will be black bottoms and
white tops. Boys should wear neckties. There is a $10 participation fee per
student. This is due on Nov. 1 when students arrive in Hays.
Remember to record the chromatic scale first and then the required etude.
You may pause the CD/tape between each one if necessary. Do NOT make any
comments or announce the student auditioning. Clearly label the CD or tape
with an EASILY REMOVABLE piece of MASKING TAPE which has the students’ name,
school and instrument written on it.
