2009 Junior High Honor Band
Directors: There are NEW Guidelines for the JH Bands and also a NEW Audition Form. Changes have been made to the Bassoon Audition Material. Hello all from the Northwest District,
I hope your summers have been filled with rest and fun in the sun. Tis’ the time for honor band once again. I have a few items for you in preparing your students for the 2009 KMEA NW District Junior High Honor Band. Make note of the new audition materials. Most are very similar and have been reduced. And a couple of the more difficult etudes have been dropped completely. Just a little something about instrumentation for the band. We seem to have encountered in years past fewer and fewer clarinets auditioning. At times, we haven’t had enough to fill the section. Please take some time to encourage those students to participate. Honor band is a very rewarding opportunity for our students to play in an outstanding group. And please encourage our low woodwinds to audition as well. They add so much color to the band sound. And, they are greatly missed when not present. The audition tapes/CD’s should be post marked by September 16, 2009. Please label all tapes/CD’s with a temporary marking. For example, write clearly on a piece of tape not directly on the CD. This makes the judging process completely anonymous.
