KMEA’s Northwest District will hold its Mini-Convention II on Saturday December 13th, 2008 at Fort Hays State University. The convention will be headlined by three fabulous concerts. At 12:30 PM, the Elementary Honor Choir will perform. Then, the High School Honor Choir and High School Honor Band will perform at 4:00 PM. Both concerts will take place in the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center inside of Sheridan Hall. This year, the band will be under the baton of Dr. Frank Tracz from Kansas State University. For more information about our clinician, please read below.

Audition tapes and/or CD’s are due at 8:00 AM on Saturday November 1st, 2008 at the KMEA NW Mini-Convention I. Tapes/CD’s will be judged throughout the morning and will be finalized at approx. 12:00 Noon. For CD recordings, be sure they are recorded in .WAV format (if recorded in mp3 format, it may not play in the judge’s CD player). Please try your CD in several sources (ex. home stereo, CD player, car stereo, etc.) to make sure it will play for our judges before coming to Hays on Nov. 3rd.

Home schooled students and students whose music directors are not members of MENC/KMEA are NOT eligible to participate in KMEA ensemble.

It is highly suggested that students do not audition for both band and choir if there is a strong possibility they will be accepted for both ensembles. However, if a student is accepted for both groups, please inform Mr. Wetter if you will fulfill your band commitment or not.

Each student selected to this years HS honor band will owe $10.00 on the morning of the December convention (Sat. Dec. 13th). Give checks to Connie Reishus as you check in (make checks payable to: KMEA NW District). If an alternate is selected from your school, you do not have to pay an entry fee for the alternate.

Good luck! If you have any questions about auditions, please contact your HS band chairman.
