Within the next couple of years KMEA will be participating
in a review and revision of the Kansas State Music Standards. A
presentation on this topic was given at the 2008 In-Service Workshop by Drs. Catherine
Hunt and Elaine Bernstorf. KMEA is now asking Kansas
Music Educators to give anonymous feedback about their use of the
Standards. The information gleaned will be used to
give guidance and direction to the team assembled by the Kansas State
Board of Education through KMEA. Many thanks to Dr. Hunt and Dr.
Bernstorf for their diligent work on this project! To complete the survey,
point your web browser to www.ksmea.org/surveys. We will leave the survey open until June 1st.
Your input is very important.

U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt visited the In-Service Workshop on Friday.
He toured a variety of workshop activities and briefly attended the
rehearsal of the State Festival Middle Level Choir. "It was a pleasure attending the KMEA In-Service Workshop," said Tiahrt. "Music is such an integral part of our educational system here in Kansas, and KMEA continues to supplement that by providing quality resources and training to those in the music education fields. In addition, KMEA is a great showcase for the musical talents we have in Kansas." Pictured here are KMEA President Jean Ney, MENC National President Lynn Brinckmeyer,
U.S. Representative Todd Tiahrt, MENC Southwestern Division Past-President and past KMEA president Ron Chronister, and
KMEA Advocacy Chair and past KMEA president Bob Lee.
