2008-09 State Festival Groups
Audition Repertoire
Wind/Perc, HS Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band, ML Choir

Audition Registration

Directors, you must have a Director ID in order to register your students for any high school state festival group.

Verify your building information in our database (high schools only).
If our information is inaccurate, please refrain from entering any registrations until it is corrected.

Wind/Perc, HS Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band, ML Choir

Excerpt Errata

Orchestra
A scanning error was discovered on the audition excerpt for Orchestra String Bass (page 3 of 4). Two notes were cropped from the right margin. A corrected copy has been posted on the orchestra excerpts page.
Band
The Bass Clarinet audition excerpt listing has been reposted. Please check for changes.
Choir
Danny Boy printing errors have been discovered as follows:
  1. Soprano 1 on page 6, m. 26, should sing a "C" after the fermata (as in the piano reduction), and Soprano 2 sings the "A". The "C" is omitted in the vocal parts.
  2. Alto on page 6, m. 28, last note should be an "E" (as in the piano reduction), not the "F" that is printed (or recorded on the audition tape).
We want our students to be prepared as accurately as possible; however, District Chairs will be advised to ask audition judges to be lenient in these 2 instances for those students who may not have received the corrections.

The KMEA New Music Teacher Handbook is an online resource for new and veteran teachers alike. Everything from suggestions on how to start the year off right to a listing of important deadlines throughout the year are included. Resources for handbooks, lesson planning, curriculum assessment, rehearsal techniques, and classroom management can all be found in one easy-to-navigate place. The handbook is simply a clearinghouse of information invaluable to new music teachers in the state of Kansas. If veteran teachers find something valuable in it as well, all the better.

Congratulations to all groups selected to perform at the 2009 In-Service Workshop. At a later date, directors of these groups will be requested to report their performance repertoire via this website.

Exhibitors wishing to contract for booth space at the 2009 In-Service Workshop may visit the Exhibitors page. Exhibits Rules & Regulations are available there as well. Use our Contract Generator to determine your booth fees and request exhibitor badges. Contract early and avoid late fees!

Within the next couple of years KMEA will be participating in a review and revision of the Kansas State Music Standards. A presentation on this topic was given at the 2008 In-Service Workshop by Drs. Catherine Hunt and Elaine Bernstorf. KMEA is now asking Kansas Music Educators to give anonymous feedback about their use of the Standards. The information gleaned will be used to give guidance and direction to the team assembled by the Kansas State Board of Education through KMEA. Many thanks to Dr. Hunt and Dr. Bernstorf for their diligent work on this project! To complete the survey, point your web browser to www.ksmea.org/surveys. Your input is very important.

KMEA is now accepting proposals for clinic sessions at the 2009 KMEA In-Service Workshop. Proposals may be submitted until October 1, 2008.

Podcast recordings, PowerPoint presentations, and clinic handouts from various 2008 ISW clinic sessions are available to our members. Approximately 55 hours of content has been posted. Thank you again to all the clinicians who graciously agreed to be a part of this project. Clinicians, we will still accept clinic handouts/presentations for inclusion on this site if they are sent to webmaster at ksmea.org. We can accept files in the following formats: doc, txt, pdf, ppt, wmv/mpg. If you have materials in other formats, please contact the KMEA webmaster.
