KMEA has joined the "Support Music Coalition". This coalition includes more than 140 organizations that represent more than seven million concerned Americans looking for ways to provide a complete education that includes music and arts instruction for children in their local schools and communities.
I have suggested on several occasions that SupportMusic.com was a place to go for help with advocacy efforts in your community. Now that KMEA is a part of this Coalition, there will be even more resources available and I will be able to continue to provide the location for more information.
Below is a press release from NAMM announcing the addition of KMEA to the Coalition.

THE KANSAS MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION JOINS THE SUPPORTMUSIC COALITION TO STRENGTHEN MUSIC EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS
HUTCHINSON, Kan., Oct. 2007 - NAMM, the not-for-profit association of the international music products industry, announced today that The Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) has joined the SupportMusic Coalition, a public service led by U.S.-based NAMM and MENC, the National Association for Music Education, that intends to strengthen music education in local communities in the United States.
The coalition comprises more than 140 organizations that represent more than seven million concerned Americans looking for ways to provide a complete education that includes music and arts instruction for children in their local schools and communities.
The Kansas Music Educators Association is an organization of music educators committed to the concept that the study of music is a positive influence in the lives of individuals and society as a whole.
"The Kansas Music Educators Association has been a supporter of the advocacy initiative for music in our schools and culture for a long time," said Robert Lee, past KMEA Advocacy Chair. "That role is intrinsically a purpose for the organization's existence. What the SupportMusic Coalition has done for all of us is to become an extensive resource for the public, as well as to provide a wealth of material for our KMEA members in their continuing efforts to support music education in their communities."
The coalition invites individuals and all interested arts, parent, education, civic engagement and youth-serving organizations to become affiliates. Affiliate organizations actively participate via task force efforts, dissemination of pertinent information to constituents and members, and by adding tools and materials to www.SupportMusic.com that advance the group's advocacy mission and messages.
